Steve Bielecki Emotional Performance Award
This is a new scholarship that has been established in the loving memory of Skip Costa’s best friend and beloved staff member that was a driving force behind the creation of NYLA DANCE and Skip’s dance company. A scholarship for a deserving tenor senior lyrical, contemporary, or modern soloist to attend a future convention or our summer program. Students are nominated at the Regional level and the Award is given at our National Events. On-site nominations are submitted by the judges & our National Director. Title winners for will be announced at each of our Nationals locations.


Rita Hewitt Choreography Award for Inspiration
We are committed to recognizing choreographers on our competition programs because we feel they are always overlooked and we need to give credit were credit is due for all the hard work our teachers, directors, guest artist and student choreographers do in order to make the performances you see a reality. This is a National Award of Excellence that rewards the choreographer with an opportunity to show their choreography. On-site nominations are submitted by the judges & our National Director. Title winners for will be announced at each of our Nationals locations.


Dance Hero of the Year
A special award given to honor an amazing student, teacher, guest artist, or dance lover for the amazing love, hard-work & sacrifice that goes into making dance possible for everyone. This award also includes a specially designed plaque. Please nominate your Dance Hero of the Year by bringing a personal letter to Regionals and tell us why you believe that your Hero should be recognized. That is all it takes to make someone feel special. Final decisions will be made by the NYLA Dance Director, Skip Costa, at Nationals.
